You don’t need a gym to rebuild the strength you’ve lost…
A pair of TRX suspension training straps and 5 specific exercises is all it takes.
Especially if your joints are sore and you’ve got limited time.
So in this post I’ll show you:
- My five go-to TRX strength exercises
- The muscles each one builds
- The single technique cue for each that doubles the results without doubling the time.
This first exercise rebuilds every weakness in your legs…
Don’t have time to read the post in full? Then watch the video below to learn how to do the 5 TRX exercises to rebuild strength (even with sore joints):
Table Of Contents
1. Single‑leg TRX Exercise
It strengthens your quads, glutes, hamstrings, and the smaller stabilising muscles around your hips…
It’s called the TRX Bulgarian split squat exercise…
And it’s a great blend of strength, mobility, and balance in a single-leg move.
So you can tackle stairs and hills with confidence instead of worrying about your knees or balance.
But here’s the cue 90% of people skip…
Pause at the bottom for that deep stretch, don’t bounce.
This builds muscle control in the end range and prevents cheating with momentum.
This next exercise is a press that humbles anyone who thinks they’ve got a strong chest…

2. Push TRX Exercise
It strengthens your chest, front shoulders, triceps, plus the obliques and deep core muscles that stop your body twisting…
It’s called the TRX single-arm push-up exercise…
It’s a fantastic unilateral movement that blends pushing power with anti-rotation core strength.
So you can push hard, whether you’re shoving furniture across the room, or throwing your kid in the air.
Now the bit nobody tells you…
Brace your core throughout to hold your body like a plank.
This prevents sagging or twisting, so you get the anti-rotation core benefit too
Now this next exercise is one most people can’t even hold for a few seconds…
3. Core TRX Exercise
It strengthens your erector spinae deep spinal stabilisers in your back…
And your six pack abs at the front…
It’s called the TRX Core Superman exercise (or TRX ab roll outs)…
It locks your whole body into one rigid line, which is how the deep stabilisers actually learn to work.
So your spine stays bulletproof when you lift or twist carrying shopping, swinging a golf club, or chasing the kids aound.
But Miss this and the exercise does nothing……
Extended out slowly over 2 seconds and hold at the end for 2 seconds.
That’s where those deep spinal stabilisers do the real work.
Now if you sit at a desk all day, this next exercise might be the most important on the list…
4. Pull TRX Exercise
It strengthens your whole back, we’re talking upper lats…
mid and lower traps, rhomboids, and rear delts…
It’s called a TRX high row BUT done with a big angle…
And it’s got pulling power and postural strength all rolled into one row.
But here’s the cue that changes everything…
As you pull up, drive your elbows back and down instead of up and out.
This shifts the work into the mid and lower traps and rhomboids…
Where the posture transformation comes from.
So you can stand tall instead of rounded forward…
And your upper back becomes strong enough to handle anything you lift, carry, or pull.
This next exercise is the next level progression for serious leg power…
5. Leg Power TRX Exercise
It builds power in your quads and glutes…
And strengthens the ankle and hip stabilisers that control your leg through deep bends
It’s called the TRX pistol squat exercise…
And it’s equal parts strength, balance and ankle mobility, the kind of leg control most people lose as they age.
So you can drop into a deep squat to play with the kids, or fire out of a low position in padel or ski without your legs giving up…
And the one thing that actually makes this work…
As you lower, sit back like you’re reaching for a chair and keep your bodyweight load going through your heel.
That takes you out of a knee-driven squat and into a glute and quad-focused squat.
So how do you actually put these 5 exercises into your training routine for maximum strength development?
Let me show you…
The Strength Technique For All These Exercises
First, this doesn’t mean every other TRX exercise like skullcrushers, curls, facepulls are useless.
They all still have a place in a well-rounded programme…
But if you want to maximise the time you’ve got, these 5 exercises are where most of your gains can come from.
But they’re useless unless you do them with muscle-Centric Technique:
- Lock your body in stone.
- Lower slowly until you feel the stretch at the bottom.
- Squeeze the muscles hard to drive back up.
- Hold the squeeze at the top.
- No bouncing, no swinging.
For all, aim for two sets of 8 to 12 reps, two times per week…
To progress, add a weighted vest or backpack to all exercises.
And don’t be surprised if you have to ease off compared to what you’re used to
Doing them with slow control technique and full range of motion loads the muscle in ways most people have never trained before,
Train consistently for 8 to 12 weeks and you’ll look and feel noticeably different.
But the thing is…
These 5 TRX strength exercises build the foundation for a strong, functional body…
But to really complete that athletic look, you need the wide, developed shoulders to go with it.
And exactly how to combine them in your training for maximum shoulder width.
