Do you get that afternoon slump around 2 or 3pm where you just hit a wall?
Yeah, me too.
Or at least I used to.
Years ago, I had this annoying problem…
I’d wake up fine.
Smash my morning workout.
Feel great through my morning coaching.
Then somewhere around 2pm…Boom…
Brain fog. Zero focus.
Just wanted to put my head down.
My solution was pretty standard…
More coffee. Maybe grab a protein bar. Power through.
But by evening I was wired from all the caffeine yet completely mentally drained.
Not exactly ideal when you’re trying to be present with your family.
I figured this was just part of being meaga busy.
The price you pay, right?
Then it came up in conversation with my fitness mentor (yep, even us fitness coaches have fitness coaches), and that changed everything…
“What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?”
“Nothing special, grab coffee?”
“No, before that. Do you clean your teeth first?”
I was confused…
“Sometimes? Normally after coffee or breakfast though.”
Ah-ha!
Here’s what I learned that will change the game for you…
When you sleep, bacteria builds up in your mouth.
If you drink or eat before cleaning your teeth, you’re washing all that bacteria straight into your gut.
That bad bacteria destroys your good bacteria and stops your gut from working properly.
But here’s where it gets interesting…
Your gut is basically your second brain:
- It produces 90% of your body’s serotonin.
- It controls inflammation, immune function…
- And yeah… your energy levels throughout the day.
If your gut isn’t working properly, nothing else really matters.
All those supplements I was taking? My gut couldn’t process them efficiently.
All that healthy food? Not being absorbed properly.
All that coffee? Just masking the real problem.
So I switched to this simple morning routine…
Takes about 3 minutes. Costs basically nothing.
Here’s what I do now:
Wake up.
Clean and floss my teeth BEFORE doing anything.
Then I drink a pint of water with:
- Squeeze of lemon (helps detoxify and balance gut pH)
- Bit of electrolyte powder (helps with rehydration)
- Pinch of Himalayan salt (essential minerals)
- Slice of raw ginger (helps digestion)
- One probiotic capsule (feeds the good bacteria)
That’s it.
Within a couple of week, I noticed something.
The 2pm crash wasn’t as bad.
By week four, it was basically gone.
I’d cut my coffee intake in half without even trying.
I just didn’t feel like I needed it anymore.
Why
Because with better gut health, my body was actually absorbing the nutrients I was eating a lot more effectively.
Look, I know this sounds almost too simple.
Clean your teeth first thing and drink some lemon water?
That’s the big secret?
But yeah. Kind of.
Because here’s the thing about fitness that most people miss…
It’s not what you eat….
It’s how effectively your body USES what you eat.
If your gut isn’t functioning properly, you’ll struggle with:
- Energy crashes
- Brain fog
- Building muscle (even if you’re training correctly)
- Burning fat (even if you’re eating “clean”)
- Mood swings and irritability
Your gut really is that important.
This is why in my Suspension Trainer Body Transformation Programs, we start with gut health alongside workouts.
Because you can do perfect technique….
You can follow the program religiously….
You can eat all the right foods.
But if your body’s “engine” isn’t working properly, you won’t see the results you deserve.
Want to try this yourself?
You don’t need to buy anything from me to test it out.
Start tomorrow morning:
- Clean and floss your teeth first thing (before phone, before coffee, before anything)
- Make that pint of water with lemon, electrolytes, salt, ginger, and a probiotic
- See how you feel after a week
If nothing changes?
Then this isn’t for you and you’ve lost nothing.
But if you notice even a bit more sustained energy and mental clarity…
Imagine what’s possible when you fix the other fundamentals too!

Honestly, I wish someone had told me about this years ago. Would’ve saved me a fortune on coffee and pre-workout supplements. If you’re dealing with afternoon energy crashes, just try the 3-minute routine for a week. See what happens.
