Couple of years ago I was constantly battling terrible gas.
I mean REALLY bad!
I was eating “clean” and “healthy” focusing on the “good foods” and avoiding the “bad foods”…
But something wasn’t right.
It would keep me up at night.
My better half too! :/
It was driving me INSANE.
Food intake was good. Lots of vegetables. Plenty of oats and rice.
What was going wrong?
I tried eliminating foods one by one.
First beetroot.
Then broccoli.
I got down to just eating carrots for veg and still had the problem.
It was frustrating as hell.
Then one day, I finally decided to look deeper than just the foods themselves.
I opened MyFitnessPal for the first time in a while (I’d slacked off on tracking) and input the daily foods I was eating
I then checked the nutrition table – the one that shows you how much of everything you’re eating…
Vitamin C, potassium, sodium, fiber…
And there it was.
My recommended fiber intake was around 50 grams per day.
I was consuming 110 grams!
Over DOUBLE what I should have been having.
The culprit?
My beloved oats.
About 80% of that excess fiber was coming from all the oats I was eating daily.
So I swapped the oats for rice flour (which has minimal fiber)…
And literally within 2-3 days, all my gas issues disappeared.
I’ve never had that problem since.
But I would never have discovered this if I hadn’t tracked my nutrient intake.
See, tracking your calories isn’t just about transformation or weight loss like all the “gymfluencers” would have you believe.
It’s about data.
It’s about understanding what’s happening INSIDE your body so you can make it perform better.
Like are you getting enough potassium compared to sodium?
If your potassium intake isn’t higher than your sodium, your energy levels will tank.
