A couple of years ago my mum didn’t seem well.
Normally energetic, she became constantly fatigued.
Her skin looked pale and she lost her upbeat mojo.
She brought me up on her own. We’re close.
When she’s not well I go into ‘over protection mode’.
At the time she’d started dating a lovely man, now her long-term partner.
Mum is a healthy eater and active.
So when she began to slow down, put weight on, and prefer sitting to walking…
I knew something wasn’t right.
She put it down to getting old and told me to stop worrying.
It wasn’t until I saw her tuck into a cake after lunch, which wasn’t the norm, that I started quizzing her.
Since meeting her boyfriend, they’d been enjoying regular coffee stops, eating out, and weekend getaways.
What my mum hadn’t realised, was that her sweet tooth had grown A LOT over these honeymoon months.
Eating desserts and cakes almost daily.
Unknowingly, she had been spiking her insulin multiple times throughout the day from additional carbs.
I advised her to get a diabetes test, which revealed Type 2 Diabetes.
She was confused because although she was having treats, she ate healthy overall.
My mum didn’t understand the negative effect of spiking insulin multiple times throughout the day.
Even if those spikes are from healthier carbs such as sweet potato, brown rice, or oats.
The more your body is exposed to insulin, the more resistant it becomes.
Leading to insulin resistance.
The good news is, we reversed it within 3 months with a simple diet tweak…
The rule was – no carbs after 2pm.
Dinner was protein, fats, and veg. NO CARBS.
This allowed a long window from 2pm till she woke up the next day with zero insulin spikes…
So her body could re-sensitise.
Thankfully now she’s back to herself and full of energy.
What does this story have to do with transforming your body?
Everything.
If your body isn’t functioning correctly due to poor insulin sensitivity, you can’t absorb nutrients from food effectively.
If you too are eating carbs multiple times a day, you’re increasing your insulin resistance.
Which makes losing weight 10X harder.
It’s also correlated with low energy, hormone production, and health markers.
We’re all just cells at the end of the day.
If those cells are resistant to insulin, they can’t function correctly.
No amount of exercise, diet shakes, or supplements will fix it.
But a small tweak to your diet can.
