Around 8 years ago I was travelling Central America with my trusty steed…a suspension trainer.
I stayed in Vinales, Cuba, for a couple of months and rented a room from a wonderful lady.
She kindly let me workout in her garden with the suspension trainer.
Now and then, she’d pop out and watch me workout…
She became so fascinated by it, that one day she asked if she could try.
1 set of Back Rows, which I advised she starts with as I could see her posture needed improvement…
Then turned into a few 10 minute coaching sessions…
Which then turned into her using the suspension trainer 3 times a week as she grew more confident.
The time came when I had to leave.
So, I left the suspension trainer with her.

Here we are just before I left, in her wonderful Cuban home.
18 months later I was back in Cuba and called in to see her.
Guess what?…
She still had the suspension trainer hanging in the same spot and the plan on a shelf.
She looked in better shape, I mean of course she did…I trained her (mini brag)…
No, in all seriousness, she had stayed consistent with it, lost a little weight, and for her 68 years of age, looked and moved great!
We sat and had a coffee.
She explained that sadly her husband had passed away not long after I left.
Working out with the suspension trainer in her garden had given her a consistency and focus to remain active, mobile, and healthy.
There are no gyms in Vinales. No weights. No supplement shops.
(…since last I was there)
Because she focused on slow, controlled technique, and used the suspension trainer to work with her biomechanics and body shape…
She saw and felt step-by-step progression after each workout.
That’s the key to consistency and motivation, to feel and see a results stimulus from each workout.
This is the complete opposite to what meat head gym culture has you believe:

Using the suspension trainer with the right technique in her own space, gave her control over her body, and ultimately her fitness.
She was not reliant on anyone, or any schedule.
She was empowered.
