This one’s personal…
Being a new dad has been incredible. Pure joy.
(We’ve recently had our second.)
But it’s also kicked my butt in ways I never expected.
You know that foggy-headed, irritable feeling when you’re running on empty?
That was me most days.
The constant colds from soft play visits (those places are basically petri dishes)…
The mood swings from broken sleep…
The irritability that made me snap at my better half over nothing…
And the struggle to maintain my fitness when I barely had energy to function.
So I turned to supplements for help (don’t worry, no supplements to sell here).
Not bodybuilding supplements.
Just specific support for immune system, energy, and stress management.
Here’s what helped:
For immune support (constantly getting sick from soft play):
- Reishi mushroom extract
- Vitamin D3
For natural energy (no more relying on 4 coffees per day):
- Cordyceps mushroom extract
- B-complex
For brain fog and mental clarity:
- Lions Maine Mushroom extract
- Omega-3 fish oil
For recovery and stress:
- Magnesium malate (mood and sleep)
- Magnesium bisglycinate (anti-inflammatory)
- Magnesium taurate (blood sugar and energy)
- (Look for a complex that contains all three)
Within a few weeks, I noticed a difference.
Energy improved. Brain fog lifted. My mood stabilised.
But here’s the thing:
Supplements alone weren’t enough.
Because I’d also let my training and muscle mass slip.
I was barely training.
Maybe once a week. Half-hearted sessions.
And muscle mass is crucial for everything:
- Energy levels (muscle is metabolically active)
- Hormone production (testosterone, growth hormone)
- Insulin sensitivity (muscle regulates blood sugar)
- Mental well-being (training = stress relief)
My mantra has always been: Muscle is life.
And I’d neglected it while dealing with new parent chaos.
So I committed to 3 suspension trainer workouts per week.
I squeezed in quick suspension trainer muscle-building workouts during my son’s naps.
Right here in my office.
No gym needed.
No wasted commute time.
Just 30 minutes of focused, muscle-centric technique that maintains strength and keeps my body performing at its best.
The combination of supplements + consistent training changed everything over the following 4-6 weeks..
Present. Patient. Not just surviving but actually thriving.
Listen, if you’re a parent struggling right now, I get it. Really.
Your body is under immense stress from:
- Sleep deprivation
- Constant low-level anxiety
- Immune system challenges
- Hormonal changes
- Physical demands
Try to actively support it.
Not with more willpower.
Not with “just try harder.”
But with strategic support: proper supplementation (on top of a healthy diet) and maintaining lean muscle mass.
Try those supplements.
And start with just one suspension trainer workout between naps or meetings.
Focus on that mind-muscle connection…
Feel the tension in each movement…
And watch how your body (and mind) transform, even in the chaos of parent life.
Here’s to your Fitness Freedom!
And thriving as a busy parent.

P.S.
The Reishi mushroom extract is what made the biggest immune difference for me. I take a small dose daily and whever i feel sickness coming on, i take a larger dose for a few days and eat a raw garlic (I know! But it works). If you’re constantly catching whatever your kids bring home, try it.
P.P.S.
Training during nap time is non-negotiable for me now. It’s the only “me time” I get most days. 30-40 minutes to connect with my body, relieve stress, and maintain muscle. Honestly saves my mental health as much as my physical health.
I hope you enjoy this post. If you want my help to build lean muscle & transform your body using a TRX suspension trainer anywhere –
