I LOVE fasting.
I recently did a 62-hour one.
After 10 weeks of a high-carb cycle to build muscle, I felt my body shutting down due to poor insulin sensitivity.
Tired, grumpy, and not recovering from workouts quickly…
It was time to reset.
That’s why I find them so good. After doing one…
- I feel like I’m in a new body
- Brain fog has gone and my mind feels on fire with productive creativity.
- It boosts insulin sensitivity in a short space of time.
But the raw truth about using fasts to lose weight is that they won’t work as the sole solution.
They are boosters.
Not a foundational reliance.
They will help you lose a little fat in the fast window, but most people rebound straight after.
Often gaining more than what they had before.
Why?
Because of leptin.
Leptin is the hunger monster in your belly.
It’s like trying to fight Mike Tyson when it gets going. You’re going to lose.
After a fast, most dive into a carb-heavy meal…
Which spikes insulin and LEPTIN levels.
That one-carb meal turns into two… three… even four meals in a short window.
Uncontrollable hunger cravings = leptin.
Instead, after a fast, have a meal that has ZERO carbs.
Just veg, protein, and fats.
You’ll get zero cravings after.
However… Before that meal always have some dates or a kiwi.
They are easy on your stomach and prepare it for a bigger meal.
I’ve missed this before, and trust me, your bowels will go NUTS!
Moving swiftly on…
Here are my top tips for fasting:
1. Start small and build up over many months.
Try a 12-hour one first.
A couple of months later, try a 24-hour one.
Then try a 36-hour one. Etc.
2. Drink water with electrolytes during the fast.
If it goes on longer than 18 hours I add a small scoop of essential amino acids too.
To help prevent any muscle breakdown.
3. Do lunchtime to lunchtime.
Not nighttime to nighttime.
You’re more likely to binge ending a fast late evening. And it can interfere with sleep.
A fast is an incredibly powerful tool in your arsenal.
But, it will only work effectively alongside the right nutrition framework.
