Most people who own a suspension trainer want to build lean muscle and transform their body from home.
They say they’re committed.
They hang the straps.
They push, pull, and hang.
They follow YouTube videos and apps.
But still, 99% of them never actually get there.
Their body stays the same, week after week.
The suspension trainer get duped into the cupboard and collects dust.
And eventually, they convince themselves it just doesn’t work for building lean muscle and trasnfroming your physique.
The problem isn’t because they’re not working hard enough.
Or don’t have enough discipline.
It’s because they avoid doing one simple thing…
The thing that actually separates the 1% who transform their bodies from the 99% who stay stuck.
I’m talking about slowing down and isolating each muscle with every single rep.
Instead of mindlessly pushing and pulling to hit a rep count…
you focus on placing your mind inside the target muscle…
Squeezing it powerfully.
Feeling it stretch and contract through the full range of motion.
Maintaining constant tension for 6+ seconds per rep instead of rushing through in 1 second.
This is what I call Muscle-Centric Technique.
It’s not flashy.
It’s not the “30-minute HIIT blast” or “extreme suspension challenge” that gets likes on Instagram.
And most people ignore it because it feels too slow, too internal, and too different from the movement-centric workouts they’re used to seeing everywhere.
But the ones who actually commit to it?
They’re the ones building visible lean muscle with just a suspension trainer while everyone else keeps wondering why their body never changes.
I know because I used to be one of the 99%.
Back when I was a personal trainer trapped in gym culture, I was obsessed with moving weight from point A to point B.
How many reps? How heavy? How fast?
I’d blast through exercises using momentum, swinging, multiple muscles sharing the load… Movement-centric technique.
Sure, I’d work up a sweat. But my body barely changed.
It wasn’t until I left London in 2016 with just a backpack and TRX traveling through South America for 3 years that I was forced to figure this out.
With no gym to fall back on, I had to make suspension training actually work for building the lean muscular and strong body I wanted.
That’s when I discovered the truth:
A muscle doesn’t know where you are or what you’re holding.
It only knows the tension you place on it.
The moment I stopped avoiding the slow, focused, squeeze-every-rep approach…
…And actually leaned into it, turning my workouts into a form of moving meditation, everything changed.
I built more lean muscle in those 3 years traveling than I ever did in 8+ years in a gym.
But here’s the thing…
Most people reading this will nod along, agree with what I’m saying…
think “yeah, that makes sense”…
and still never actually slow down and focus on the squeeze.
They’ll go right back to rushing through reps.
Letting momentum do the work.
Using movement-centric technique that feels productive but delivers zero lean muscle growth.
The question is, will you?
