2016 was the last time I used a gym.
Before that I was in one pretty much every day.
Coaching aside, I had to use a gym each day just to feel myself.
That was my ‘Gym-Bro Adam days,’
“You have to use a gym to transform your body bro, there is NO other way! HOOOORAH!”
It was a blessing and a curse.
A healthy hobby, perhaps…
But I was trapped due to a false belief that led to reliance.
I couldn’t travel or be anywhere unless it was next to a gym.
Figuring out how to use a TRX suspension trainer to build muscle and visibly transform my body from home, spelled FREEDOM for me.

It freed me from getting caught up in the ego-centric gym culture…
Wasted time from travelling and waiting to use equipment…
And being externally focused comparing myself to others….
(Comparison left me feeling like crap on a daily basis)
Today, I build lean muscle and transform my body from my office
With just a suspension trainer.
My workouts are in between my sons nap times and speaking with coaching clients.
It hangs from the door 2ft from the desk.
I turn around, do a workout, in-take the right nutrition after, job done.
I coined the term “Fitness Freedom Athlete” almost a decade a go.

Your workouts become a form of mediation for better mental-well being…
You don’t need to rely on gyms, diet fads, or anyone else’s schedule.

When I first came up with the term ‘Fitness Freedom Athlete’ I was coaching people on how to do ‘muscle-centric suspension trainer technique’.
The technique that leads to muscle growth.
I’d say to clients, “squeeze that muscle powerfully throughout the entire rep”
And…
“Let me see your squeeze face. No squeeze face, no growth!”
It became a meme amongst clients, and in the FFA community online, and YouTube.
To this day, clients end emails and WhatsApp messages with “…don’t forget to squeeze!”
Out of all the coaching, nutrition articles, exercise teaching videos I’ve done over the years..
The main thing people remember is, “squeeeeeeze!”
How is this story important to you?
The one piece of advice I can give you, no matter how you’re training, is to connect with your body.
Place your mind inside the muscle you are targeting and squeeze it powerfully throughout the entire set.
Don’t get distracted from this, no phone, focus on your body.
Not only will you get better fitness results from an applied mindset and focus.
But you’ll also awaken pathways in your body to connect with your muscles better.
Strengthening your body whilst calming your mind.
